To properly set up even a "simple" 1080p projector home theater surround sound system, there are many types of audio/video connections that must be made.

  • Each of your surround sound speakers will require enough (in-wall) speaker wire running from the back of the home theater receiver to each speaker.

  • Each powered subwoofer will require a subwoofer cable running from the sub pre-out(s) on back of the home theater receiver to the subwoofer(s).

  • Each of your A/V source components such as your Blu-ray Disc player, HDTV tuner, and video game system will need to be connected to the back of the home theater receiver using an HDMI cable.

  • Ethernet cable will need to be run from your network to any network-ready A/V components.

  • A single (perhaps quite) long HDMI cable will need to run from the HDMI output on back of your receiver to an HDMI input on your 1080p projector.

  • The AC power cord from your home theater receiver and each source component should be plugged into a power surge protector. Any electronics that are located apart from the audio/video component rack, such as the 1080p projector or a computer/media server, will require their own separate surge protection.

  • Additional A/V cables, accessories, wiring expertise, and tools may also be necessary and/or desirable to achieve a neat and clean finish, or for more advanced stuff like installing a motorized projection screen or automated lighting and curtains, etc.
