If you've got the extra cash and space required to step up to separates (A/V preamplifier surround sound processor and separate power amplifier), you should definitely go for it. For the rest of you, we recommend investing in a good quality home theater receiver with the latest Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio surround sound decoding, plenty of power for driving a surround sound speaker system, more than enough HDMI repeater inputs that handle processing and switching for both the audio and video signals, and advanced networking capabilities. Other cool options include Sirius/XM satellite radio and multi-zone, multi-source whole house audio capabilities.

A home theater A/V receiver is the central hub of your entire projector home theater system. Your HDTV tuner, Blu-ray Disc player, and video game system will each be connected to an HDMI input on back of the home theater receiver using a single HDMI cable. Additional A/V source components can also be connected to your receiver, using component video cables, digital audio cables, composite A/V, USB cable, etc. Most of today's better home theater receivers can up-convert analog / non-HD video to 1080p via HDMI output, and thus allow you to run a single (perhaps quite LOOONG) HDMI cable out to your 1080p home theater projector.
